Sirius Satellite Radio (SIRI) announced that it will launch a television service in several models of DaimlerChrysler cars and minivans later in the year.
The service will be directed toward children with three live channels. Networks involved and their channels will be the Disney Channel (DIS), Viacom's (VIA-B) Nickelodeon and Time Warner's (TWX) Cartoon Network.
Pricing for the system will be in the neighborhood of $470, which comes with one year of service, when included with the rear seat entertainment system in Chrysler's new cars. Subsciptions to Sirius Satellite Radio are separate.
Once the first year is finished, the TV service will cost $7 a month, along with the normal $13 a month that's currently paid for the radio service.
The agreement is exlusive for one year, which then will allow the service to be added to other carmakers' vehicles.
The service has been in the works since 2004.
