The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles evidently still has some drawing power as they ended up No. 1 in the box office this weekend, taking in a little over 25.4 million in its debut. It's hard to believe that it was 17 years ago when the first movie of the "Turtles" came out in 1990. That one finished with over $135 million domestically and $200 million internationally. You won't see that with this film.
Second place finishers for the week was "300" which continued to hold fairly strong, bringing in another $20.5 million, dropping only by 38 percent over last week. They now have over a $162 million total take.
Another new movie finished in the top three as "Shooter" with Mark Wahlberg ended up in the number three slot, earning $14.5 million. Not too bad when it was competing with the same demographic as "300."
Fouth place went to "Wild Hogs," which has proven amazingly resilient. It was reviewed horribly, but moviegoers didn't care as they continue to respond to the middle age crisis theme. It only dropped by 25 percent, finishing up with $14.3 million for the weekend. It's now brought in $123.8 million altogether.
