Disney (DIS) has found a formula it likes and has started to repeat it over the years successfully, which is finding a film they believe fans will like at the beginning of March and making a big opening day hit out of it. They did it again with Wild Hogs, which while dissed by critics, has appealed to a lot of people as it raked in an opening weekend total of $38 million. It lands it in the top ten of all-time March openers.
Coming in second for the weekend was Zodiac, which opened to $13.1 million. It wasn't too bad with opening at about a 1,000 fewer venues than "Hogs."
Marvel's and Sony's Ghost Rider was able to bring in another $11.5 million to take this weekends third spot. That brings its total to almost $95 million since it opened, and projected to finish at around $120 million.
Finishing fourth was Bridge to Terabithia. It brought in $8.6 million in its third weekend. It's earned $57.9 million so far.
