Columbia pictures has optioned the rights to the Green Hornet, originally a radio serial in the 1930s and in comic books for years. Will they finally be able to bring the project to the big screen? Matt Tolmach and Doug Belgrad announced that the studio will take the hero and adapt him into a feature film.
A lot of people may not know it, but this has happened before as a number of studios, producers, writers and directors have been trying to get this story to the theater for years. Over the last 10 years there have been leading-men put forth for the lead role like Hugh Jackman, Mark Wahlberg, Jake Gyllenhaal and even George Clooney.
Tolmach said, "We have an enormous amount of passion and commitment to this character and are looking forward to developing The Green Hornet into what we hope will be an amazing new franchise for the studio."
Neal H. Moritz, who owns the rights to "Hornet" will also produce the film along with Original Film. Ori Marmur, from Original, will manage the development of the project for Moritz's production company.
With the past history of stars being announced and the project being dropped, Columbia hasn't released any names of who may be starring in the film.
Green Hornet's sidekick, Kato, was played by Bruce Lee in his first acting role on TV in 1966.
