
Fox's (NWS-A) "Idol Gives Back" charity special was a huge success as the fundraiser ended up raising over $60 million, with pledges still coming in.
The funds are targeted to relief programs in the U.S. and Africa, said the network.
American Idol Wednesday was the night of the special with celebrities like the first "Idol" winner Kelly Clarkson participating, the African Children's Choir and Celine Dion, among others. Bono and Ben Stiller had pre-recorded messages encourging viewers to contribute.
News Corp., the parent of Fox added $5 million to the pot as they gave 10 cents for each of the first 50 million votes cast during the Tuesday show.
The network said on next weeks show they'll give the final total as contributions are still coming in.
