Avril Lavigne debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 for the second time in her career with her new album, The Best Damn Thing, which sold 286,000 units for the first week.
She did previously with her Under My Skin album in 2004. She just missed it in 2002 with Let Go, as it launched in the number two slot.
The album is led by its hit single "Girlfriend," which has helped the album to reach 1.5 million copies sold around the world. It opened at number one overall in 11 countries.
Online sales for the single has already reached 1.8 million downloads in the U.S. This week "Girlfriend" should hit number one, giving Lavigne the top spot for both the single and her album.
Country music artists landed four in the top ten this week, probably aided by the Country Music Television Awards show.
