In a deal that should bring their music catalog to the Internet, the Beatles and EMI Group have reached a settlement in their royalty dispute over $59 million.
Apple Corps is the company owned by Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and the estates of John Lennon and George Harrison. What started the dispute was an audit which revealed that EMI hadn't been fulfilling the terms of its contract with the Beatles company.
This isn't the first time the two companies have fought as they have engaged in a 10-year long battle over royalties and other issues in the past which were settled in 1989.
Representatives from both parties refused to comment or offer up any more details.
The good news for Beatles fans is this should clear the way for the popular music of the Beatles to be brought online, as they're one of the last big names to hold out from going online.
The agreement between Apple Corps and Apple Computer (AAPL) in February shows that the former band is setting the stage for the Internet. It's no longer if but when.
