NBC (GE) has picked up a reality pilot from producer Ben Silverman and Bernie Mac called "Welcome to the Family." The show comes from Silverman's Reveille and Mac's MacMan Entertainment.
The premise of the show is couples from very different backgrounds like religious, cultural, economic and social are shown when they meet their prospective in-laws for the first time, while letting them know that they are now engaged. Mac will be the narrator of the events.
It's probable that the idea was generated from Mac's role in the comedy he starred in with Ashton Kutcher "Guess Who."
"It's all about falling in love, family and learning how to accept someone despite cultural, economic or social differences," Silverman said. "We are thrilled that NBC
is once again taking the lead in supporting innovative programming, just as it did with our hit shows 'The Office' and 'The Biggest Loser.' "
This could promise to be a highly emotional and challenging show, considering the subject matter being offered. It does have a chance of being intriguing and capturing the curiosity of viewers. It also has the possibility of creating explosive situations that will tell a lot of how people feel about these things. If it's done right, this has the potential to be a hit.
