There has never been any love lost between British Airways and Richard Branson. The latest salvo in the ongoing skirmish has British Airways cutting out Branson where he appeared in the last James Bond film and blurred the image of a Virgin Atlantic plane that was shown in the movie. That will show Sir Richard who's boss!
In the original version of "Casino Royale" Branson is shown going through a metal detector at Miami Airport and then he turns around and you can see who he is. There was also a tail fin of a Virgin Atlantic plane that was shown in the original that was blurred where you couldn't see it. I guess you could say British Airways "rubbed out" Virgin's plane. What does the Queen have to say about this?
A spokesman for British Airways speaking on the condition of anonymity said, "We screen all films before they're used on our aircraft so that we can control the content of what is displayed. We have full control over what is shown."
The grounds for changes in films by British Airways, according to Hollywood Reporter, is based upon "taste and suitability." I guess they're saying Richard Branson has no taste and Virgin Airlines isn't suitable for British Airway passengers. I'm glad we got that all straight.
While this has never been a "friendly" rivalry, it got worse last year when Virgin Atlantic Airways offered information to American and British authorities that initiated a price-fixing investigation concerning passenger rates and fuel surcharges connected to British Airways PLC.
