
The core group of Larry and Andy Wachowski's adaptation of the 1960s cartoon "Speed Racer" is now complete as they have landed Christina Ricci as the girlfriend of lead Emile Hirsch.
Hirsch plays the role of none other than "Speed," who is a race driver looking to make a name for himself in his unique car full of various gadgets, Mach 5. Ricci will play his girlfriend Trixie, who is his greatest and most powerful ally.
Others already cast are John Goodman who will play Pops, who owns and builds race cars, and Susan Sarandon, who will play the wife of Pops.
Filming is set to begin this summer, with the Wachowskis both writing and directing the project. The film is scheduled for release in the summer of 2008.
