Katie Couric delivered her usual video essay topic which was found to be almost word-for-word what a Wall Street Journal article said.
When seeing the essay, an editor from The Wall Street Journal called up CBS News (CBS-A) to show how similar the essay was to the article. Responding to the scandal, CBS News spokeswoman Sandra Genelius said "We were horrified. It was almost verbatim."
The network removed the essay from the CBS Web site where it's carried under the "Couric & Co." channel.
While it isn't known who the producer of the piece was, that person was fired and the network issued an apology for their actions.
The original article was written by Jeffrey Zaslow and was titled "Of the Places You'll Go, Is the Library Still One of Them?" It talked about the differences between the way parents and children viewed libraries.
