CBS (CBS-A) is thinking about getting a little creative with their upcoming fall lineup of new shows.
"We went into this development season saying, 'Let's throw out the rulebook'," said CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler. "We have an incredibly strong schedule. What better time to take risks ... and try some really surprising and unique projects?"
Some of their potential new offerings will be "Babylon Fields," which will be about
Zombies, but supposedly with a personal relationship aspect to it. Tassler calls it "Ordinary People" meets "Day of the Living Dead." About all I can say about that is "you've got to be kidding?".
Another possible is "Demons" which is a story about a priest that will battle with Satan. It comes from "Joan of Arcadia" creator Barbara Hall.
"Twilight" is also being brought before Leslie Moonves to give the green light to, and it's the story about a detective who is also a vampire.
There are others in different genres that don't sound much better. There's a difference between "throwing away the rulebook" and "giving away the store." There's nothing in these shows or most of the potential shows CBS is talking about that looks very good at all. They might as well take "Grindhouse" and make it into a TV series as put this stuff up.
Unless Tassler wants to become the Julie Rhoem of CBS, I would begin to think of something other than the majority of junk that they're looking at throwing out at the public this fall.
Of course it will be up to Moonves to decide what will go up, and I tend to think that the majority of what we see here won't be put up on the schedule. Moonves may want a lot more to work with to make decisions, not be brought stuff that isn't even plausible.
