MTV has started auditions to start the boy band Menudo, which was popular during the 1980s and '90s. The group also helped to launch the solo career of Ricky Martin.
This time around the group will be part of a realty show, as the new series called, "The Road to Menudo," will feature seven boys selected from across the country through auditions, which will then be filmed for the series.
Johnny Wright, the music manager behind New Kids on the Block, 'NSync and the Backstreet Boys, said, "We're going to make it a little different than it was before. The beat is going to be the beats of the street now -- club, hip-hop and rock. It's not going to be something that's pigeonholed."
Wright is one of the judges that will decide the final seven.
Menudo was unique in that they rotated members throughout the years so they could keep a fresh look and keep the boy-band appeal when the voices started to change.
