MTV has rewarded their top show with 10-episode order for a third season of the unscripted show. It is scheduled to start sometime this summer and is aired at 10 p.m. on Monday.
The network was encouraged as the second season increased it's viewership by 9 percent over the first season, now averaging 2.7 million viewers. Nielsen Media Research says that the show has increased in the 12-24 demo by 15 percent, growing to 1.7 million; while in the 12 -34 age group they've increased by 8 percent to 2.2 million.
MTV also said that the show was consistently the top watched show in television for the 12-24 demo in its time frame.
Another successful venture for the network has been "The Hills After Show," which they plan on making next year to air after the third-season finale.
"The success of 'The Hills' ' second season illustrates our strategy to engage viewers across all screens and to give fans the ability to stay connected to the cast and their stories when they want and where they want," MTV president of entertainment and programming Lois Curren said. "The approach we've taken with 'The Hills' reaffirms that our audience is embracing the touchpoints we've created for them to stay immersed in the shows they love."
The show which is a spin off of "Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County," was created by Adam DiVello, who along with Sean Travis, Liz Gateley and Tony DiSanto, executive produces the show.
