In a disastrous showing, NBC (GE) finished the week ending April 8 in what may be their worse rated week in the key 18-49 demo in its history, says Nielsen Media Reasearch.
The network averaged only a 2.2 rating/9 share in the age group, down by a huge 24 percent from last year. Nielsen started the ratings in September of 1991, and this is the lowest rating they've ever had since the system was established.
Fox (NWS-A) won the week in the demo, helped by their usual strong showing from "American Idol." They finished with a 3.8/11. Next was CBS (CBS-A) which
had a pretty good 3.2/9, with ABC (DIS) following in third with 3.0/9. NBC was in fourth with the numbers we already talked about.
The other bad news for NBC was that they also finished last in the big four networks with total viewership averaging only 7.07 million, which was down from last years numbers by 22 percent. CBS finished first in overall viewers with 11.51 million, followed by Fox in second with 9.66 million.
