
Salma Hayek and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. announced that they are forming a new film company that will focus on creating Latino movies that will have a broader, mainstream appeal.
The new company is christened, Ventanazul, and will be based at MGM.
Strategy for Ventanazul will be to either buy or create a new independent movies at a clip of two to four a year and will center on Latino themes, actors and actresses, but which also draws on the interests of general audiences as well.
"We want these movies to appeal to everyone, but we also hope to make Latino audiences proud," Hayek said.
Hayek will have the role of chief executive officer and president of the company while her producer partner, Jose Tamez, will fill the office of president of production.
MGM is under the control of two private equity companies Providence Equity Partners and Texas Pacific Group. Others holding large stakes in the company are Comcast (CMCSA), Sony (SNE), Quadrangle Group and DLJ Merchant Banking Partners.
