The rumors that Shia LaBeouf will be the new sidekick Indiana Jones in the upcoming fourth installment has been confirmed on the official Indiana Jones Web site.
The young actor has appeared in "Holes," "I, Robot," "Bobby," and "Constantine." He is also in Spielberg's thriller "Disturbia," which is debuting today. In the summer he'll be in Michael Bay-helemd's "Transformers."
"We are excited about bringing Shia into our Indy family," director Steven Spielberg said in a statement. "His talent has impressed not only his audiences throughout his young career but the directors, producers and fellow actors who have worked with him in his television career and now his film career."
LaBeouf said on Friday that he didn't know until the last moment whether he would be included in the project.
"I was hoping the rumors were true, so I couldn't be more thrilled," Lebouf said. "To be cast in an Indiana Jones film is like grabbing the brass ring and holding on for the ride. I'll do my best to meet the high standards that Steven, George [Lucas], and Harrison have set and I can't wait to take that giant step in front of the Indy cameras."
Paramount will resume its distributor role for the film, which will start shooting in June in Los Angeles. It's scheduled for release on May 22, 2008.
