In "Spider-Man 3," Tobey Maguire says that he really enjoyed playing "Spider-Man" as he has to deal with his dark side in the movie.
"I probably had the most fun doing those (bad Spidey) scenes," Maguire told reporters. "It's something I think is kind of unexpected since Peter Parker behaves in some of the ways he behaves."
In this version the fame of being "Spider-Man" has gone to Peter Parker's head, and he makes a bunch of mistakes as a result; especially with girlfriend Mary Jane Watson, played by Kirsten Dunst.
While Maguire enjoyed the different role, director Sam Raimi said it was hard to
show the dark side of the hero, "I want him to be a good person. But when I take a grander view of it, I realize this is something he's got to go through so he can find his truest self. This is a part of himself that had never been explored, these feelings of darkness."
The film premiered in Tokyo earlier this week, and will debut in the U.S. on May 4.
