Taking the No. 1 spot for the second week in a row is Disturbia, earning an average $13.5 million, dropping by about 39% from its debut. They are now at $40.7 million overall and will possibly reach the $60 million mark, which will probably turn a profit even before the DVD release. Something a smaller budget helps it accomplish.
It looks like no studio is trying to put anything big out there as they prepare for the beginning of what they hope is not only a blockbuster summer, but a record breaking one as well. Disturbia probably would have plunged if there had been any real competitive movies offered for the weekend.
The thriller "Fracture" which tries a not-so-subtle attempt to tie into The Silence of the Lambs, also starring Anthony Hopkins, took in a weak $11.2 million, but still good enough to land it in second place. If it is able to stay fairly strong next weekend, it's possible that it may do good on the opening of the summer season as an alternative to Spider-Man 3.
Staying fairly strong for another weekend was "Blades of Glory," which in view of the slow weekend was able to hold on to third place, taking in another $7.8 million, dropping 44% from last week.
