Fox's "American Idol" is still the biggest thing by far on network television, with nobody coming even close to competing with them. Even so, the numbers have been dipping a little this year, and raises the question of how long it will continue to draw the numbers they do. I personally think that when the numbers really drop, they'll plunge signicantly.
It seems Fox is seeing that too as they're looking at spinning off their first series from the show since the Junior Idol competition.
The new series is tentatively being called "The Search for the Next Great American Band, and is created by Idol's Simon Fuller. The new series will take in bands of all ages and styles.
Besides Fuller, producers for the new series will be Nigel Lythgoe, Ken Warwick and Cecile Frot-Coutaz.
