Chris Albrecht chairman and chief executive of Home Box Office had originally announced that he would be taking a leave of absence from the company after being arrested for assaulting his girlfriend in Las Vegas. Just a few hours later he made another announcement that he had resigned “at the request of Time Warner."
With the Los Angeles Times reporting that HBO (TWX) had paid out settlement money in 1991 of a minimum of $400,000 after he had been accused of assaulting her as well.
In 1995 Albrecht was named chief of programming for HBO and became CEO in 2002.
Bill Nelson the COO of HBO will run the company until a permanent replacement is found for Albrecht.
Time Warner head Richard Parsons said: “This is the right decision for the company.”
The timing of this for HBO is especially hard as they're revamping their network with the departure of "The Sopranos" and "Six Feet Under."
