On the Retirement Living TV channel, which targets viewers aged 55 and over, there will be a special called "Countdown to Conversion," which will focus on the upcoming transition to digital television on February 17, 2009. That's the date when all analog television sets will no longer receive a signal; or "go dark."
"By aligning with key players in the cable industry like NCTA's Kyle McSlarrow and the FCC's Deborah Taylor Tate to create Countdown to Conversion, Retirement Living TV has created a unified voice that can educate individuals over 55 about the digital transition," said John Erickson, Founder and CEO of Retirement Living TV. "Retirement Living TV recognizes that there is a crucial need for this information, and Countdown to Conversion caters to that need."
There is a growing concern that there will be a huge fallout from the action as many people still don't know much about it or aren't searching it out.
Even in our communication age there are millions of people in the U.S. that aren't connected to the Internet or following much of this story.
Hopefully this type of show will educate and continually remind people of what is going to happen in the not-too-distant future. At this time there are many who really don't understand what will happen on that date. It could still be a nightmare for that time, even with the continued efforts at letting people know.
