The "Night at the Museum" DVD sold 6 million units in its first week to give the business a huge boost and finish in the number one position, knocking out "Smoking Aces," which finished at No. 4.
Not only did it score big for the DVD industry, but it helped propel the movie rental industry too as it generated an estimated $11.6 million in rental revenue, said Home Media Magazine's rental chart.
Two other new movies helped push that charts as well, both in rental and in DVD sales. "Deja Vu" and "The Queen" finished in the 2nd and 3rd positions in both categories.
"Deja Vu" brought in around $8.6 million, while "The Queen" brought an additional $7.5 million in rental revenue.
"Night of the Museum" generated over $250 million in revenue in theaters.
