While most of us knew that Fox (NWS-A) would renew "24," the question was for how long, as Kiefer Sutherland had already been signed on through May of 2009.
The rumblings out of the network are that the series will go through major overhauls next year, with some saying the location of CTU will be changed from Los Angeles. Other rumors are the show will be set in two locations.
As far as the existing cast goes, it sounds like many of them won't be returning. That would make sense if the counterterrorism unit is changing locations. Some former characters are also said to be returing; possibly in different situations than they were originally in.
"We're recreating the series," exec producer and showrunner Howard Gordon said. "It is going to be a real-time thriller. Beyond that, it's an open book."
This won't be the first time they've done this as it seems every couple of years a much different CTU emerges. It seems this year's cast didn't resonate with viewers as much as in the past, thus the changes.
I hope the keep Chloë, as she's one of my personal favorites, and I would think they would bring back Elish Cuthbert as Jack's daughter somewhere in there. Otherwise it will be fun to see who else they might be thinking of returning to the series.
As most "24" fans know, the series finale is set for next Monday night with a two-hour ending.
