
Fans of the Indianapolis 500 will be able to watch the race in high-definition for the first time on May 27 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the 91st Indy 500 race.
The ESPN production will be aired on ABC (DIS) at 1 p.m. ET. Coverage before the race will start at noon ET.
"The start of the Indianapolis 500 is one of the most dramatic moments in sports, and providing flag-to-flag coverage of 'The Greatest Spectacle in Racing' in High Definition will add to our viewers' enjoyment of the race," said John Wildhack, ESPN's executive vice president for programming.
President and COO of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Joie Chitwood, said that there has been a big demand by fans to have the race in high-def quality.
"One of the most frequent requests from our fans is a high-definition telecast of the Indianapolis 500, and we're thrilled to fulfill that demand," said Chitwood.
Hosting the broadcast for ABC will be Brent Musberger, while Marty Reid will be lead announcer.
