Sparks is the daughter of Phillippi Sparks, the former National Football League player.

The show has increasingly become an event for professional artists as Green Day, Smokey Robinson, Gwen Stefani, Tony Bennett and Gladys Knight performed for the season finale audience.
For "American Idol" itself, it will be interesting to see if they make many changes in the format. While viewership was down some from last year, it still maintened a huge lead over its nearest competitors.
