The popular novel by Susie Sebold, "The Lovely Bones" has found a film home as DreamWorks will be teaming up with Peter Jackson to bring it to the big screen.
The novel, which was published in 2002, and has sold over 10 million copies around the world while being on the the hardcover New York Times (NYT) bestseller list for more than a year, was battled over by several Hollywood studios for the rights to produce it.
Peter Jackson, famed for "Lord of the Rings" and "King Kong," has co-written the screenplay with his usual co-workers Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens and will direct the film. The movie will be distributed by Dreamwork's (DWA) parent, Paramount (VIA-B).
Jackson who is known to be costly when coming to his special effects, is reportedly asking for around $65 million to make the movie, in addition to his directing and producing fees. It is also reported that total costs for the project could reach as high as $90 million.
Shooting for the film will begin in October, starting in Pennsylvania and New Zealand, DreamWorks said in a statement.
