The top film for the weekend, to no ones surprise, was Shrek the Third. It's strong Friday opening of $39 million helped to launch it off to an estimated weekend take of $133 million, better than most projected. That was close to an average of $30,000, while being shown in 4,122 theaters.
While Spider-Man 3 won't reach the top 10 movies of all time, there is an outside chance "Shrek the Third" might be, if it can hold stronger over the next two weekends. Spider-Man 3 dropped a huge 61.5 percent last weekend from the opener, something the orginal two didn't do.
Spider-Man 3 dropped by 51% this weekend, to finish in second place with $28.5 million. It has now reached the $281.9 million mark, but it won't come near the success of its predecessors. It hasn't quite resonated with fans like the first two.
Like last week, after the first two places there is pretty much nothing else going on. "28 Weeks Later" took the third spot with a $5.15 million weekend take. There hasn't been much interest in the zombie horror film, but then again there hasn't been much interest in anything else other than the blockbusters, which was to be expected.
