According to an internal email memo sent by ABC News president David Weston, the unit will be cutting 35 job positions over the next to years to position itself for a stronger digital media focus.
While there will be 35 positions cut, there will be others added in digital media and other places. The cuts will represent a fairly small 1 percent of ABC News' overall work force.
Further details of the cuts weren't mentioned, but Westin said he wanted to keep the broadcast news strong and "redesign the division to reflect the growing importance of our digital offerings -- and their centrality to our future."
On the digital side, there will be additional resources and workers added to reflect the growing importance of the online space.
Westin added that it's important to do this now from a position of strength, as "World News With Charles Gibson" has taken over the first place spot in broadcast news recently.
"Now we're dealing from strength, and that makes it all the more important to act now," Westin said.
This is a good move because the broadcast news has widely been ignored or abandoned by younger people who prefer to get their news online.
