
The British media regulator Ofcom, published a report saying that 80 percent of British homes now enjoy digital television on their main home TV set.
According to the study, during the first quarter 80.5 percent (20.4 million homes)
now have digital, an increase from 77.2 percent from the previous quarter.
BSkyB was surpassed by Freeview, as Freeview is now available in 8.4 million homes, an increase from last quarters 7.7 million. Viewers for Freeview increased by 1.96 million, an increase of 61 percent. BSkyB now has a little over 8 million homes covered.
Ofcom CEO Ed Richards said: "More than four in five U.K. households are now enjoying the benefits of digital television. It's great news that we are continuing to see the market grow strongly as we approach the start of digital switchover."Britain will be watched by the U.S. providers to see how their consumers respond to their digital switch, which begins in the English town of Whitehaven in October.
