The comic book super hero continues to be a big part of the success of Hollywood film these days. Now that "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer," is about to debut in theaters, Marvel has turned its attention to another team of superheroes: "The Avengers."
Screenwriter Zak Penn has is slated to script the new adaptation, having completed "The Incredible Hulk." I'll wait to see the "Hulk" to see if I get excited about the "Avengers." The last Hulk was the worse Marvel superhero adaption to film, in my estimation.
Being an experience comic book fan from days of yore, it'll be interesting to see how the Avengers will be portrayed. The early group changed a lot over the years. It wouldn't be a great film I think to include them all.
Another little side to this story is that some of those that were part of the Avengers also had solo comics, which have been on the big screen (HULK), or are in the process of shooting (Iron Man), so will they be included as part of the team, and if so, will it be somewhat of a letdown if those playing the solo roles aren't those chosen to play the team role?
Hopefully they'll start with the original Avengers, as it gives them something that could be built on in the future. Start with a later version, and I guess they'll have to do a prequel if it is a big hit.
Even though Marvel is starting the project, it may be a while before we see it in the theater, as they said they want to wait until some of the individual characters' movies are shown before releasing the Avengers.
The original Avengers were Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Wasp and Ant-Man.
