A lot of Beatles fans thought that the end of the dispute between Apple (AAPL) and the Beatles' company, Apple Corps Ltd., had eliminated the barriers to getting their music on the Internet quickly. Unfortunately it's not as easy as that. Now it looks like the music won't be ready until sometime in 2008, said Olivia Harrison, George Harrison's widow.
Talking to Reuters, Olivia Harrison said, "We just have a few things to work out elsewhere ... I think we're a little bit behind."
It seems the problem is connected to the offline CDs classic albums that the band members and widows want to release.
A couple problems there were the retirement of Neil Aspinall, who was over the business interests of the group, and has now been replaced with Jeff Jones, whose specialty is in reissuing classic albums.
With the Beatles being notoriously resistant to new technology, it looks like they want to release a package of classic CDs before the online Music is offered.
With the remastering being completed under Aspinall, the last piece of the puzzle for the CDs is finding photographs the group is satisified with, so fans can be happy with the physical package.
"That's a big job. That means you have to go back through all the archives and find great photographs and really give a nice package to the fans," said Harrison.
It looks like we're going to have to wait until the CD package is released before the online music is offered.
