Last year, somebody at Nissan or their media agency OMD, evidently saw what they like in "Heroes," and took a chance on it before it became a hit.
That prescience is now paying off as they made another deal with the Peacock before somebody else stole their thunder in the promising second season.
If you're a "Heroes" fan, you'll know that some of the shows characters either drove or found opportune times to mention Nissan's Versa, Armada SUV and Altima sedan in numerous episodes.
To begin the campaign off, Nissan will exclusively sponsor the shows premiere episode which will result in fewer commercial interruptions.
I like this deal on both sides because Nissan will not only market through traditional tv commercials, but will also sponsor online content, the DVD release of the first season, the music video and other outlets also.
For NBC (GE) and "Heroes," it gives a solid, predictable stream of income throughout the season. Something that is very fragmented at this time. I think sponsorships are going to become more prevelant in the times ahead, as the market becomes more scattered. Networks need to find ways to bring stable revenue streams to their businesses; this is one good way to do it.
Nissan will take this opportunity to promote the Rogue, which will appear in dealership sometime in September, which coincides great with the new season's start.
