Olympia Dukakis is as busy as she's ever been at 75, as she just finished working on two films, "In the Land of Women," working with Meg Ryan, and "Away with Her," which according to Dukakis has been getting great reviews. It's a long way from her stage debut at 13 in a Greek war relief benefit, being a Greek immigrant.
She's also shooting another film called Poor Things, working with Shirley MacLaine. It's based on the recent true story where two women picked up a couple of guys and took out insurance policies on them, while immediately afterward running them down with their automobiles. The two women are awaiting trial at this time.
Dukakis has also been in the touring play "Rose," which should be touring again this season.
The big acting break for Dukakis was playing Rose Castorini in the 1987 movie Moonstruck, by John Patrick Shanley. She won an Oscar for the role.
After that she went to Broadway and played the role of Clytemnestra in "Agamemnon" and the lead role in "A Mother." She has also appeared on television in Tales of the City, which included two sequels. All of this starting at the age of around 55.
Dukakis added that while she has seen some changes in the profession, there is a long way to go.
“For older women, there are no stories because there is no sexual interest,” she said. “The main interest is for men 18 to 32 or something like that. They do things for people like that. It’s a business, run by men and dominated by men. (Hollywood) is the biggest boys club going.”
In spite of this, Dukakis is keeping extremely busy as she travels around the country teaching acting in classes and workshops, along with her stage and film work.
She also has a nonprofit organization called Voices of the Earth, which focuses on women related issues and spirituality.
At the time most of us think of starting to wind down a little, Dukakis seems like she's just getting going.

I am amazed to hear that Olympia is still working at the age of 75 yrs.
Where is she getting her energy from? She doesn't even look 65!
I think actors/actresses should have an age that when they reach, they should retire and spend the rest of their lives enjoying their wealth, coaching and teaching young actors and actresses as well as traveling and doing charity working if they can.
