The music album considered the important and influential ever: "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," by the Beatles, is celebrating its 40th anniversary as of June 1.
I was alive when the album came out and remember the controversy it stirred up as The Beatles had abandoned their clean look and the suits, and came out with the new look and sound at a time when their popularity had started to wane. Of course the music changed as well, as the Beatles reinvented themselves.
The album was the Beatles' eighth one, and had been recorded at the studios at Abbey Road in London.
Leeds University will host an event where the impact of the album is discussed and why it continues to hold such a grip on the new audiences that discover it.
Event organizer, Simon Warner, said: "Put simply, it's the most important album by the most important group. It was a groundbreaking moment for popular music, bringing together a vast array of musical styles - the mysticism of Within You Without You, the music hall of When I'm Sixty Four and the fairground sounds of Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite."
