Virgin and BSkyB have been having a good row, and it's being brought to another level as Virgin announced that it's going to compete with BSkyB's Sky One Web site. The name of the new Virgin competitor? What else? Virgin 1!
Included with the service will be content from Virgin Media's current pay-TV channels, along with user-generated content to supplement it.
"Virgin 1 will shake up multichannel and free-to-air TV and start liberating viewers from the linear schedule," claimed Jonathan Webb, managing director of Virgin Media Television.
The new online TV station will be made available via Freeview and will launch sometime in the fall.
Director of programming for the new initiative will be Celia Taylor, who will report directly to Virgin Media TV director of television, Claudia Rosencrantz.

This promises to be an interesting story for awhile as the two battle it out.
