The Fox Reality division of News Corp. (NWS-A) has given the go ahead for "The Search for the Next Elvira," as actress Cassaandra Peterson is searching to extend her "Elvira" franchise.
Those vying to become another "Mistress of the Dark," will include 13 contestants drawn from what they're calling their open "casket call." They'll be competing to see which contestant can best personify the Elvira character.
"We receive hundreds of Elvira appearance requests every year," said Peterson's manager, Eric Gardner. "We began dreaming of a world in which there would eventually be legions of franchised Elviras, including one in every shopping-mall atrium in the country each Halloween season. Fox Reality has given us the opportunity to anoint the first recruit."
The short series will include 3 episodes starting on October 13 at 9 p.m. Once the second episode of the series is viewed, fans can then start to vote on who will be the best Elvira. The winner will be revealed on Halloween night on a live broadcast.
Peterson said, "There are simply too many ghastly engagements for one Mistress of the Dark to entertain. I am searching for someone to share my tricks with -- someone to help spread the Halloween spirit."
When you consider that Peterson has been playing the Elvira character for 25 years, it surprising she hasn't licensed or multiplied the character before this. I'll bet we'll start to see all sorts of new avenues for her character now that these first steps are being taken.
