The former late night talk show host Tom Snyder died on Sunday at the age of 71. Snyder died from complications related with leukemia. In 2005 he let people know on his website that he had the disease.
Snyder was known for his chain smoking, which seemed to create a puff of smoke around him through the telecast. That and his unique manner, along with contrasting black eyebrows against his grey hair made him a distinctive, memorable figure.
He could be contentious in his interviews which would always be entertaining for viewers of his "Tomorrow" show, which followed Johnny Carson on the "Tonight show from 1973 to 1982.
Snyder started out as a radio reporter, and from there went to local broadcast news until his promotion to the "Tomorrow" show.
One interesting fact was he was the final host to interview John Lennon on television in April 1975.
Snyder is survived by his daughter and girlfriend.
