Being a couch potato is now even getting better, for those who believe it is still a lot of work to have to watch TV using a remote.
Instead of having to use a remote, engineers from Australia have made a type of box that will allow users to "change channels, switch on the DVD player or switch off an irritating presenter with the wave of a hand," says the Daily Mail.
How it will work is it will include a camera inside that will be able to identify seven easy-to-perform gestures with a hand that will be able to work with eight various gadgets that may be used around the home.
From there, all a person will have to do is sit it on a flat surface that will have a unobstructed line of site between the television and viewer.
It sounds like all the gestures will be the same, with the exception of those needed to tell which device you're wanting to interact with. The developers say the hand signals can be learned in about five minutes.
The actual technology has worked in tests, as it has worked in various degrees of lighting and distances. It's even able to tell the difference between unintentional hand signals and real commands performed; something important for those with pets, children or people who talk with lots of hand movement.
So I guess this means couch potatoes will go from having strong thumbs to strong wrists. Don't worry though, your thumbs will remain strong, as the introduction of the technology won't be ready for about three years.
