With the network changing its primetime focus to more nonfiction fare, Court TV announced it will change its name to TruTV to more accurately represent the transforming network. The name change will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2008.
The channel will still offer its usual coverage of the courts during the daytime 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. hours, but starting at 3 p.m., it will all start to change. Star Jones, who was hired by the network earlier in the year, will have her new talk show start at that time, to usher in the new strategy.
"In truTV, we now have the ideal name that fits both the programming and the target audience," said Marc Juris, the network's general manager.
To attract new and younger viewers, the channel is creating new series dealing with con artists, tornado chasers, female bounty hunters and risky rescues. Some of their current nonfiction shows like "Haunting Evidence" and "Forensic Files" will remain on the schedule.
