After performing with David Tennant last year in Doctor Who in an episode called "The Runaway Bride," producers liked what they saw and have recruited comedian Catherine Tate to be his new assistant in next season's show.
Writer and director Russell T. Wright says, "Catherine was an absolute star in The Runaway Bride and we are delighted she has agreed join us."
Tate will keep the character "Donna" she played in The Runaway Bride, as she takes on the Doctor's assistant role. Freema Agyeman will continue on in her role as Martha Jones, but her part in the series will be decreased.
Responding to working with David Tennant again, Tate said, "I am delighted to be returning to Doctor Who. I had a blast last Christmas and look forward to travelling again through time and space with that nice man from Gallifrey."
In her role as Donna, she was found to be a key to a plan by aliens to destroy the earth.
