After Ben Silverman was hired by NBC (GE) to head up its entertainment department, it wasn't long before he called Donald Trump and Mark Burnett to revive "The Apprentice."
Along with restarting the show, it will also include some changes. Instead of regular people vying to become one of Trump's workers, instead, it'll bring celebrities on board with the winner donating their winnings to charity.
At this time no celebrity names have been thrown out as being on board, but the show is looking for celebs with some business skills in entertainment, fashion and sports.
This makes sense, as bringing back the show as it was would guarantee it would even drop further in the ratings. I also think this will be a holding year for NBC, with not too many expectations going forward. They have very little they can count on going forward, and nothing in the pipe that is promising. Other than Heroes, they are really hurting.
So bringing back "The Apprentice" from that way of looking at it is understandable. They have some history that they can at least draw on to count on some numbers from the show.
The show is scheduled to start in the middle of the coming season.
