Emma Watson gets a little exasperated when she continually has to explain why she doesn't want to be in acting full time. She said in People magazine why she was the last holdout to sign for the final Harry Potter movies, "People can't understand why I don't want to be a full-time actress, but school life keeps me in touch with my friends. It keeps me in touch with reality."
She added that her parents, who are both lawyers, have no interest in the industry at all. She likes her network of friends where she finds more of an anchor.
Never being one to back down from saying what she thinks, she added concerning some of the female celebrities in the media that "There are too many stupid girls in the media. Hermione's not scared to be clever. I think sometimes really smart girls dumb themselves down a bit, and that's bad."
Emma likes the role she plays as Hermione in the Harry Potter series, as she says her character is a complete tomboy and doesn't care what she looks like. She doesn't like the pressure on girls to try to be so beautiful.
It's refreshing to hear a young woman in the industry keep her head on her shoulders and grounded in reality. I hope she's able to keep this as the pressures of Hollywood and the industry push against her.
For young Emma though, she's starting to not look like a tomboy.
