I must be getting old, I remember where I was when I heard the radio announcement that Elvis had died.
August 16 will mark 30 years since Elvis Presley died. In honor of the King of Rock 'n' Roll, TV Land will offer a celebration of his legacy all during the month of August.
Included in the mix will be documentaries, concerts, feature films and original special - Myths and Legends: Elvis, says their press release.
Before all this happens, on July 26, TV Land and the city of Honolulu, Hawaii will get together to dedicate an Elvis Presley life-sized bronze sculpture on the site where Elvis performed his 1973 Aloha from Hawaii concert, now called The Neal S. Blaisdell Center.
"Elvis Presley is the ultimate icon of pop culture who changed the face of music," states Larry W. Jones, President, TV Land. "He had a force and an impact which is unprecedented, and it is our hope that TV Land's tribute to him will remind fans of his amazing legacy that continues to endure."
The Myths and Legends: Elvis original special will talk about a number of mysteries surrounding Elvis that have swirled around him for years. Things like are Elvis and Oprah related in some way? Or did Elvis really talk to President Richard Nixon about becoming a federal drug agent, and more. This special will give the answers to these and other mysteries surrounding him. This special will air Thursday, August 16 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
