The partnership between Universal Pictures and Google should provide a lot of fun, entertainment and anticipation, as the companies bring an online interactive experience to Bourne fans, through an online game created to be used with Google products.
The Bourne Ultimatum, which will be released on Aug. 3, is the ongoing story of agent Jason Bourne, played by Matt Damon in the two previous films based on books by Robert Ludlum.
For the interactive site called "The Ultimate Search for Bourne With Google," which will launch on Monday, it will provide Bourne fans the chance to use various Google products in the online game like YouTube, images, maps, search and translation, which will allow users to take on the persona of Jason Bourne. From there they will be given weekly tasks to accomplish.
Universal will use this to try to make a stronger connection with the fans of Bourne, while Google will be given the opportunity to get people to try their products, which a lot of people, other than search, haven't used before. For that reason they're won't be paid for the deal, rather will use it to promote the products across Universal's various platforms.
The interactive game will be promoted by Universal with search ads on Google, movie trailers, in-theater and banners on other sites not connected to Google. The game will be launched in seven countries.
Doug Neil, svp of digital marketing at Universal, said about Google, "They know their users like entertainment content. They like to look for projects that enhance access to the products they offer."
I'm definitely one of the fans of the Bourne franchise, and will be checking out the site on Monday for sure.
