When the planned reality tv series starring Victoria Beckham and her family and famous husbands' move from Britain to the U.S. was dropped to a one-hour special, I knew the idea was in trouble.
The U.S. critics attacked the show unmercifully, with scathing attacks upon Victoria.
The Telegraph quoted one saying that while Victoria was "pleasant and not without a sense of humour" she questioned whether the American market really needs another "rich idiotic It girl". You mean Victoria is the victim of some other dumb, rich American girls? Hmm. I wonder who they had in mind?
NBC (GE) knew it had a problem a long time ago, when it dropped the reality series to one show. The problem was of course they couldn't back out of it without making the Beckhams, and Victoria in particular, completely offended. They also had to have had some type of agreement in place which held them to it.
Either way, there's not much the show helped anybody with, ah, with possibly the exception of Victoria. What? Yes, Victoria is attempting to get her jean line going in the U.S., along with perfume and designer sunglasses, and while she may have been attacked by the critics here, the general American public has had a fascination with "rich idiotic IT girl's," so she just may catch on after a few more doses of ego-gratification sessions in the press.
While Victoria is trying hard to look like a normal, regular girl, maybe that isn't the war to do it, as the show and past have evidently shown. It won't take too long to see which direction her publicists take her next.
As far as David goes, he's not starting off too well with his new team either, as a swollen ankle could keep him out of the much-hyped game against Chelsea, which was to be his initial appearance with his new team. I guess the one good thing about the Beckhams, and that is things can only go up from here.
