NBC (GE) finally got a break from its sports deals as coverage of the Wimbledon Men's Final drew its best numbers since 2004. Estimates by Nielsen Media Research show that the final that the battle between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, which took six hours to complete, averaged a 3.2 rating/9 share for the match.
Federer was also in the last good ratings when he took on Andy Roddick in 2004 at Wimbledon, where the number were 3.6/10. The numbers for this year were up 10 percent over last year's numbers.
The women weren't able to reach the success of the men in viewership, but the finals between Venus Williams and Marion Bartoli drew a 2.8/8 for the match, which was up by 27 percent over last year's finals.
This is good news for NBC which has had their professional sports coverage underperform lately for them. They need some more of this to bring their dismal numbers up.
