In an interview in the upcoming issue of Los Angeles Confidential, Grey's Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo blasted media coverage of Hollywood socialites “who are rich and famous for nothing.”
Pompeo said in the Confidential: “We’re so focused on the wrong things. We’re teaching young girls that this is what they should be focusing on: rich and famous girls who are rich and famous for nothing. What are we doing to this younger generation? It’s not very responsible.”
She added that "the media should take this country in a different direction."
Newsbusters commented on Pompeo's thoughts saying: "So far this year has been a low point for journalism from the wall-to-wall obsession with the late Anna Nicole Smith to the non-stop coverage of Paris Hilton's smirking exploits. While this fluff is covered, more important stories go underreported or even unreported."
A lot of the fluff will probably always remain, but it is unfortunate that so much meaningless attention is spent on these stupid socialites. Although it does seem post-jail Paris Hilton hasn't had the coverage she got before she went to the slammer. We can all be thankful for that.
