Latest Tween Movie "Bratz" Opening Friday

With young girls across the world loving the more urban-focused dolls "Bratz," Hollywood has taken noticed and will release the first movie based upon the franchise on Friday.

The movie is centered on four of the dolls - Cloe, Jade, Sasha and Yasmin - who are brought to the big screen to show how they deal with the usual problems facing kids at high school.

This is in reality an interesting experiment. Disney (DIS) has proven that wholesome shows like High School Musical can sell, but this comes somewhere between wholesome and nasty girls; something that hasn't been explored much on the big screen.

In a somewhat odd statement, director Sean McNamara said concerning developing the show: "The doll makers said that the clothing was the form of self-expression for the dolls. But you can't translate those clothes the dolls wear onto real girls."

"We had to make the girls living and breathing in parent-approved clothing -- forward thinking, but they could not dress like sluts."

What's odd about it is to hear someone from Hollywood saying the doll's were dressed like sluts and they couldn't present the movie in the way the dolls are sold to young girls. When someone from Hollywood feels the dolls are dressed like sluts, it's quite a statement to what they may represent.

The company says they expect the movie to increase sales by 50 to 100 percent. The problem they have is the dual representation being presented. By that I mean you evedently are going to have more wholesome girls presented in the story of the movie, but when parents buy the dolls for their children, an entire different image is presented from the dolls. This could become a problem and get a lot of unwanted backlash from those that aren't aware of the difference.

A lot of people have criticized the dolls for being inappropriate for young girls because of their being far too sexual in nature.

The movie itself will feature fresh faces, rather than known actresses. Playing the four friends in the movie will be newcomers Nathalia Ramos, Janel Parrish, Logan Browning and Skyler Shaye.
