It comes as no surprise that the Disney hit "High School Musical 2" extended its popularity to the music realm as well, selling 615,000 copies of its album in the first week of sales, making it the second-best start for the year, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Only Linkin Park's "Minutes to Midnight" started faster, garnering 623,000 units sold during their first week in June.
The other good news for Disney (DIS), is they also have two of the other top ten finishers in the Billboard 200 also. Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus, by Miley Cyrus, finished in the second spot for the week, probably moving up as a result of being shown after the new movie.
The eigth spot of the top ten sellers was filled by the Jonas Brothers, with their self-titled album, another Disney representative.
The performance by "High School Musical 2" puts it in elite company, as only three other soundtracks since tracking began have sold sold over 615,000 in a week: Eminem's "8 Mile," "Titanic" and "The Bodyguard."
